Why have my nails changed colors?

Lately i've noticed something different about myself. My nails (both fingernails and toe nails) have turned a dark purple color.. i thought i was just cold.. but even when i'm in the bath, they are still purple. I have heard its due to circulation issues, but does anyone know what this is caused by or how to fix it?
